New Times Best Concert Photographer – A Few Favorites

I’m so honored and humbled to be nominated for the Phoenix New Times Best Concert Photographer in Phoenix. Here are a few of my favorite shots along with others being showcased for the contest. Thank you so much for all your support and don’t forget to vote HERE. Enjoy!

Luke Bryan with Lee Brice – October 2014

Venue: Ak-Chin Pavilion
Client/Publication: azcentral.com/The Arizona Republic
Time Allotted: Songs two and three from the pit
Camera: Canon 7D
Lens: Canon 300 f/4.0

Luke’s stage includes a cat walk that T’s off at the top. Since he spends a lot of time singing to the crowd from the top of the cat walk. So, a lot of time for those two songs allotted are spent waiting to get a good side shot or one of him without the mic covering his face while walking back to the stage.

The Descendents – September 2014

Venue: Marquee Theater
Client/Publication: Radio Station ALTAZ/KDKB 93.3
Time Allotted: First three songs from the pit
Camera: Canon 7D
Lens: Canon 24-7-f/2.8

Godsmack – September 2014

Venue: Comerica Theater
Client/Publication: Live Nation
Time Allotted: First three songs from the pit
Camera: Canon 7D
Lens: Canon 24-7-f/2.8

Fire! Always a fun to shoot if you can catch it on time. If you miss it the first time, you know it’s coming around again so be prepared. Godsmack is great to shoot and Sully will move away from the mic from time to time to allow clean shots. The lighting is excellent.

Switchfoot – September 2014

Venue: Marquee Theater
Client/Publication: Radio Station ALTAZ/KDKB 93.3
Time Allotted: First three songs from the pit
Camera: Canon 7D
Lens: Canon 24-7-f/2.8

Gas Light Anthem w/ Against Me! – October 2014

Venue: Marquee Theater
Client/Publication: Phoenix New Times
Time Allotted: First three songs from the pit
Camera: Canon 7D
Lens: Canon 24-7-f/2.8

Taking Back Sunday – September 2014

Venue: Marquee Theater
Client/Publication: Radio Station ALTAZ/KDKB 93.3
Time Allotted: First three songs from the pit
Camera: Canon 7D
Lens: Canon 24-7-f/2.8

Blake Shelton w/The Band Perry – Sept 2014

Blake Shelton

Venue: Ak-Chin Pavilion
Client/Publication: Phoenix New Times
Time Allotted: Songs two and three from Sound board
Camera: Canon 7D
Lens: Canon 300 f/4.0

Nothing like a Blake Shelton show! Good times. Shooting from the soundboard isn’t always my favorite place to shoot from but since Blake has great lighting it was pretty easy.

Counting Crows – August 2014

Venue: Comerica
Client/Publication: Live Nation
Time Allotted: First three songs/Stage left or right on the floor/no center shooting
Camera: Canon 7D
Lens: Canon 24-70 f/2.8

I’m not a fan of shooting from the sides. You can’t get a full straight shot of the band and you have to wait to get anything more than a constant side shot.

KISS – July 2014

Venue: Ak-Chin Pavilion
Client/Publication: Live Nation
Time Allotted: First two songs from the pit
Camera: Canon 7D
Lens: Canon 24-70 f/2.8

One of the best bands to shoot! Lighting is great! Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley always pose for the photographers right to the edge of the stage. I was not given access to shoot Def Leppard.
